The integration of Health Sync (and other apps) with Huawei Health Kit in Russia is limited. There are several things that you need to know:
- Don’t use Health Sync from the Google Play Store
- Create a Huawei ID with region Russia if you don’t want to sync activity, sleep or oxygen saturation data.
- Create a Huawei ID with region Belarus (or another country in Europe) if you want to sync activity, sleep or oxygen saturation data
- Use the correct country setting in Health Sync
- Don’t pay for the Health Sync license when you don’t have a working sync during the trial period
We will explain the four topics in detail below, and tell you what to do.
Health Sync and Google Play in Russia
Health Sync offers you a one week free trial. To continue using Health Sync, you must pay a small one-time fee for the Health Sync license. But currently you cannot make payments through the Google Play Store. So you will not be able to use Health Sync from the Google Play Store if you have not purchased the Health Sync license in the past (before the international financial sanctions against Russia started). In that case you have to use the Health Sync variant from the Huawei AppGallery. Check out the site https://appyhapps.nl/health-sync-russia-en/ for instructions.
Huawei ID created with region/country Russia
When you create a Huawei ID for Huawei Health, you need to select your country or region. If you selected Russia when you created the Huawei ID, the data that can be synced is limited. Huawei currently only allows other apps (such as Health Sync) to read steps, weight, and heart rate data when using a Huawei ID created with Russia region. So activity data, sleep data and oxygen saturation data cannot be synchronized when using Huawei ID created with Russia region. This is a limitation caused by the Russian government’s policy with foreign apps.
It doesn’t help to change the country/region for your Huawei ID, the country/region used when you created the Huawei ID determines what can be synced.
Huawei ID created with region/country Belarus (or another European country)
If you want to sync activity data, sleep data or oxygen saturation data from Huawei Health, you need to create a Huawei ID with country Belarus, or another European country. To create a new Huawei ID, please check the site for information: https://appyhapps.nl/huawei-health-region-non-huawei-phone/ if you use a non-Huawei phone, and https://appyhapps.nl/huawei-health-region-huawei-phone/ when using a Huawei phone.
Please note that any payments you made with the Huawei AppGallery payment service, are saved with your Huawei ID. If you create a new Huawei ID, you lose all your existing purchases when you use this new Huawei ID as Huawei ID in the AppGallery.
Huawei country setting in Health Sync
When you initialize Health Sync for Huawei Health synchronization, you will be prompted to register in Health Sync in the country you selected when you created the Huawei ID that you will use with Health Sync. If you are using a Huawei ID created with country/region Russia, you must select Russia in Health Sync. It won’t work otherwise. If you created the Huawei ID with another country, make sure to select that country in Health Sync.
If you already initialized Health Sync and you configured the wrong country in Health Sync, you can change the country as follows:
- Open Health Sync
- Select the ‘Connected apps’ menu
- Select ‘Huawei Health Kit Authorization’
- On the Health Kit Authorization page, tap on the country and change it to the correct country/region
Pay for the Health Sync license with the Huawei ID that you will use for the sync
When you pay for the Health Sync license through the Huawei AppGallery payment service and then you change the Huawei ID, your license will no longer be recognized. The payment information is saved with your Huawei ID. So first make sure that the synchronization works properly and then pay the small one-time fee for the license. In Russia, you can use the QiWi payment method or the mobile carrier payment method in the Huawei AppGallery.
If the sync doesn’t start working
If you continue to have problems with the Health Sync configuration or with the synchronization, you can submit a problem report. Be sure to include a clear description of the problem when Health Sync asks you to describe the problem. You can submit a problem report by selecting the ‘Help Center’ menu in Health Sync and then selecting the last option called ‘Report another problem’.
